Overview

The NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is an all-in-one superzoom lens designed for Nikon Z-series mirrorless cameras. Its wide 28mm to 400mm focal-length range allows you to photograph everything from landscapes and city scenes to portraits, distant subjects, and wildlife without changing lenses.

Despite its large zoom range, the lens is relatively lightweight at around 725 g. Its Vibration Reduction (VR) system helps reduce camera shake for sharper handheld images, while the close-focusing capability allows you to get relatively close to small subjects.

The lens is particularly suited to travel photographers, enthusiasts, and photographers who value convenience and versatility. The main compromise is its variable f/4-8 maximum aperture: it is relatively bright at 28mm but becomes considerably slower toward 400mm, so good light or higher ISO settings may be needed when shooting at the long end.

Overall, it is designed as a single-lens solution for a broad range of everyday photography, minimizing the need to carry or swap multiple lenses.
